The Dellere’s – 4/8/17

My husband and I have known Mike, Colleen and Alex for many years now. Mike and my husband, John, played rugby together for the Denver Highlanders, and Colleen and I currently play for the Denver Bulldogs Aussie Rules Football team. And, of course Alex is our son’s babysitter! The Dellere’s are on my calendar to shoot their wedding at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science at the end of the summer, so I offered to do their engagement session as our wedding gift to them. We had a blast at City Park, where we could get some nice backdrops of the museum! Collen, Mike and Alex always do so well in front of the camera! Let the countdown begin!

The Murphy’s – 4/2/17

Amanda reached out to me in early March of this year, wanting to do a maternity/family session before her and Sam’s little girl, Ryan, arrived! We went back and forth on where a good location would be to do this shoot, and I’m so happy we settled on City Park. Denver faced almost a week of snowstorms, but by our shoot on Saturday, the snow had completely melted. Another major bonus was that all of the beautiful, old cherry trees were in blossom. Amanda, Sam and their son, Andy, were such a joy to photograph. The love their family exudes really filled me heart!

2016 Awards

I am thrilled to announce that 2016 brought forth three awards for Ares Photography. In late summer, I submitted four photographs to the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals organization’s MarCom Awards entry in portrait photography.

The foundation for AMCP began in 1995 as a means to honor outstanding achievement and service to the communication profession…The goal of the group was to provide an inexpensive, independent competition on an international level that would be fair, respected and open to everyone.”

I first found out about these organizations when I worked as a marketing and communications professional (before I started my photography business). I earned a few honors, but I never quite reached the highest status, which is a Platinum Award.

This year I was so incredibly thrilled to learn I not only earned an honorable mention and a Gold Award, but I found myself as a platinum award winner. Seeing my name and company listed alongside massive organizations, such as Nationwide Insurance, made me realize that photography is something I have excelled at (above anything else).

Special thanks go to my customers and friends who helped me kickstart this really amazing adventure!

Judges are industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talents exceed a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry. There were over 6,500 entries from throughout the United States, Canada and 17 other countries in the MarCom Awards 2016 competition.”

Platinum Award: Alex

MarCom’s Platinum Award is presented to those entries judged to be among the most outstanding entries in the competition. Platinum Winners are recognized for their excellence in terms of quality, creativity and resourcefulness. About 17 percent won this award.”

Gold Award: Eliana

The Gold Award is presented to those entries judged to exceed the high standards of the industry norm. Approximately 24 percent were Gold Winners.”

Honorable Mention: Dr. Akilah Spencer, D.C.

Honorable Mention certificates are granted to those entries that meet the expectations of the judges. Approximately 10 percent were Honorable Mention winners.”

Irish Pubs Web Shoots – 11/16

My husband’s rugby buddy, Brendan of Premier A/V, is a really talented tech guy, and he reached out to me to find out if I’d be interested in doing several photo shoots at four local pubs, as he’s redesigning their websites. I jumped at the chance because of the great opportunity, plus I’ve been a patron at several of these locations! The ambiance at all the sister bars was lively, and the food looked and tasted amazing. I highly recommend checking these pubs out if you’re ever in Denver! (The links are to the old websites, as they’re still being re-designed.)

McLoughlin’s – 2100 16th St. | Ste. 145 | Denver, CO | 80202

The Irish Snug – 1201 E. Colfax Ave. Ste. 100 | Denver, CO | 80218

Slattery’s – 5364 Greenwood Plaza Blvd. | Greenwood Village, CO | 80111

Maggie Smith’s – 6631 S. Peoria St. | Centennial, CO | 80111

The Buss’ – 11/20/16

Robert and I worked at the same company before I set off on my new venture (photography), and I was excited to find out he came across my business on facebook a number of months after my departure! Robert, Cara and their two cute kiddos, Crosby and Keaton, met me at a fun spot just outside of Conifer, Colorado. They were such troopers! It snowed a few days before, so it was kind of muddy and soggy, but they didn’t mind. I think their willingness to go with the flow was well worth it, as the photos turned out fabulous! We even got some fun snowy photos even though the temperature started pushing 70 degrees as we finished up.

Sara did a great job as our photographer. The turnaround from photo shoot to having images available to view was very minimal, which made the whole experience great. I would recommend Sara to anyone looking to have photos take either as a family or to have an event memorialized through photography.”

The Eckstein’s – 11/19/16

Carrie, Max and I all play for the Denver Bulldogs Australian Football Rules Club–Max plays for the men’s dynasty, and Carrie and I play for the women’s dynasty (six straight national championships!). When Carrie reached out to me to see if I wanted to do their family photos for this year, I was ecstatic. They’re such a nice family. Plus they’ve got the cutest little girl, Burke, who is just over 2.5 years old now.

They recently purchased a home in Evergreen, Colorado, and Carrie wanted to do snow photos this year. Of course 2016 almost set a record for the longest time without snow in the metro area, and we jumped on the chance as soon as we saw snow in the forecast. I met them at their AMAZING property, which spans tens of acres with pretty trees, prairie grasses and scenic views.

The Eckstein’s were very open minded and didn’t mind hiking around in the snow, which–by the way–was some of the prettiest snow I’ve ever seen. It literally looked like glitter!

Sara nailed it. I didn’t say anything other than, ‘snow,’ and she did the rest. Thank you!”

The Colasuonno’s – 11/6/16

Hey! I’m two for two on Colasuonno family shoots in the past two years! Kelly said she could never get Shawn to do family photos…now he’s all about it! Maybe it’s because we always have a ton of fun and laugh a lot during the sessions. If you know the Colasuonno’s, you know they’re a blast to be around. We went on a small hike outside of Conifer, Colorado, during the golden hour and got some really nice shots. We also did a lot of funny and creative shots too… like the totally cheesy photoshopped bear photo. Well the bear looks cheesy but the Colasuonno’s really played the part! Poor Cameron! Hopefully we’ll have a three-peat next year, which will make Kelly happy…I’m sure!

The Lesnansky-Catherman’s – 10/30/16

Oh man…where do I start? Stazi and I go back a loooooong time. She was a high school freshman, and I was a junior. We both started playing rugby for the Littleton Harlequins the same week as each other in 2002. Then we traveled the country and world together through rugby. Then she was one of my bridesmaids. Then she had a baby girl. Then I had a baby boy four months later. She’s one of my closest friends, so I was really excited when she asked about doing a family photo session.

I met her, Ryan and Abby in Lakewood at a local park to get some photos of the family. Abby is such a sweetheart and super smart and talkative, but she did not like my camera! Not one bit! I mostly focused on candid shots versus posed shots, because she didn’t seem to notice me as much. And hey, I got a couple of really sweet photos!

The Swafford’s – 10/9/16

My husband and Aaron have worked at the same engineering firm for the past 10 years give or take a few, and the last time I saw “the twins,” Jace and Riley, they were only two or three years old! Heidi, Aaron and the kids visited our place over Labor Day weekend and noticed my photography gear. They mentioned in passing they just talked about needing to do a family photo. I offered to do a family session, and they scheduled–although they may have been a bit nervous, as they have never done outdoor photos before.

We met up on a really pretty autumn day in Golden, Colorado, and took full advantage of the changing colors and pretty skies. We even did some adventurous trekking to get down on the creek for some fun photos near the water and along the rocks.

Sara did a fantastic job with our family photos! She’s very creative and open minded. We will treasure these photos forever.”

The Zevallos’ – 10/8/16

Carissa, Javier and Eliana were my first family shoot of the fall season, and we couldn’t have really picked a better weekend to shoot photos at a local park. Colorado isn’t really known for it’s amazing multi-colored leaves, but we do get some very vibrant yellows. Eliana is only a month and a half older than my son, and she is the calmest, sweetest little girl. My son Michael, on the other hand, screamed during our entire family photo shoot. So I couldn’t have been happier with how these photos of Eliana turned out! Carissa and Javier looked stunning as well.
